The Hossack's wild and free hunting is complimented by a large game park which provides hunters with a true test of their hunting skills. Massive red stags, New Zealand wapiti, bull elk and huge fallow bucks roam the game park together with chamois, rams and boar. Horseback hunting and hunting wild boar with dogs is also available. The Hossack is a 24,000 acre high country station dating back to 1852. It continues to muster its cattle by horseback and shear its sheep with blade shears.
The Hossack is a serene yet exciting high country station for those who wish to enjoy New Zealand's hunting heritage whilst also being near to the famous tourist centre of Hanmer Springs. There are many tourist activities to be enjoyed out of Hanmer Springs as well as first class accommodation or 5 star accommodation if you choose not to stay at the Hossack's comfortable hunting camp on the station. If relaxation for a non hunting partner is desired then the Hossack is the ultimate place to unwind while the hunter searches the river valleys and surrounding hills.
Bull tahr are an impressive alpine game animal and can be hunted on a nearby high country station. Heli-hunting of New Zealand's alpine game animals (buck chamois and bull tahr) is very popular although the use of helicopters is not essential. We can arrange heli-hunts if required. However the Hossack's professional hunting guides will locate your game animals on the Hossack using 4-wheel drive Toyota Landcruisers and some good old-fashioned walking and stalking! We invite you to visit us at the Hossack and enjoy the look and feel of a well established New Zealand high country station, experience excellent hunting in a variety of terrain and experience the hospitality New Zealand is world famous for.
Wild and Free Range Red Stag only:
This is a 5 day trip with 4 nights at the Hossack and the other day for airport transfers. Some hunting is possible on day one if the flight gets into Christchurch (via Auckland) early on day one. On the last day we can hunt in the morning then pack up and head back to the taxidermist in Christchurch. The free range hunt cost is US$4750 per hunter including the day rate. Additional animals and upgrades are as per the trophy fee schedule.
Classic Hossack Hunt (Red Stag & Buck Chamois):

All airport transfers, meals and accommodation are included in the cost of US$7,250 per hunter.

Our Wild and Free Range Guarantee:
We guarantee that you will harvest a trophy red stag at the Hossack. If for whatever reason you do not harvest a wild and free red stag, you will have the option to hunt our large game park and to take a royal (6x6) red stag at no additional cost.
Cull Hunting and Management Hunts:
We have some game park hunting for red deer hinds available for US$200 per hind and the hunting of management stags for US$1250 per stag. These are red stags that a young hunter may like to shoot. There is also some free culling of wild pigs (non trophy) at the Hossack plus small game eg rabbits and hares including spotlighting at night.
The day rate of US$400 per day reduces to US$300 per day if it is a 2x1 hunt ie 2 hunters, one guide.
We always feed the hunters on some venison from the Hossack during their stay. A young red deer can be harvested on the day of arrival at no charge.
For non hunters (e.g., wife, son, etc) the rate is US$200 per day. There is sightseeing and shopping in Hanmer Springs plus hot pools, golf course, horse trekking, etc. A local quad motorbike business operates just down the river from us which is suitable for both adults and children.
