M20983 is owned and operated by Tim Doud, a Cody Country Outfitters & Guides Association Guide of the Year and Shoshone National Forest Outfitter of the Year. Tim has guided and outfitted hunters for over 30 years and is past-President of the Wyoming Outfitters Association, Life Member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Life Member of the North American Hunting Club.

Since 1980, Tim has guided some of the most influential people in the world of Hunting; M. R. James, founder of Bowhunter Magazine, Dwight Shuh, Editor of Bowhunter Magazine, Dave Maas, Editor of North American Hunter Magazine, Steve Gruber, Host of TV Show Outdoor America, Mark Kayser, writer for North American Hunting Club and TV Host, Mike Carey, Host of Bowhunter Magazine TV Show, Larry D. Jones, writer for Bowhunter Magazine.

Our camp is located 22 miles into the Washakie Wilderness of the Shoshone National Forest, southeast of Yellowstone National Park, in northwest Wyoming. Corrals are located 43 miles south of Cody, Wyoming on the Southfork of the Shoshone River. The camp consists of wall tents, all with propane lanterns, log beds, big comfortable mattresses and wood stoves. The heated shower tent is a warm welcome after a hard day of hunting. The camp cook prepares hearty, family-style meals in the large cook tent while hunters and guides tell the stories of the days hunt.

Archery and rifle elk hunts:

- Archery Elk: Our archery elk season runs from September 1 to September 30. This is the majestic bugle season. Our archery elk hunts are true wilderness experiences and not for the half-hearted hunter. Your physical condition will determine how much your guide can do with you. Our archery elk hunts are 8 days in length.Success varies from year to year.

Shooting success at bulls 40 yards or less has averaged around 75% in the past 18 years with the harvest depending on the hunters. We take 4 to 8 bowhunters per hunt. The Wyoming Game & Fish Deparment has 25 "archery only" tags set aside for this area. Archery tags are almost guaranteed. These hunts fill up quickly so book early.

- Rifle Elk: General rifle elk season runs October 1-21. We run 7-day hunts with one or two-hunters per guide. We take 4-8 hunters per hunt, with 5-6 hunters being the average. Hunting will vary from calling in bulls, to glassing and stalking, to still hunting through timber.

Lots of horseback riding, day and night, and walking are usually required. On all of our elk hunts we hunt all day long. You will be leaving the base camp in the dark and returning in the dark.

- Late Season Elk: November 1-30 is our late elk season. This is when the big bulls migrate out of the high fall range and out of Yellowstone National Park down to the winter range. It is not uncommon to see herds of 100-200 elk. This is the time of year when the chance of getting a really big bull are high. Success on these hunts is near 100% on 300 B&C bulls.

- Cow Elk: We run 3-day cow elk hunts during the month of November. Cow tags are easy to get and hunters always fill. If you are hunting for meat, this is the hunt for you. We are very flexible on the dates of this hunt.

Spring bear hunts:

Spring Black Bear hunts are in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. The season runs May 1 - June 15 with the best time to hunt being late May thru June. The Wyoming Game & Fish Department has implemented a female quota system. The season will close at the seasoning ending date or when the quota has been reached.
We take only 2 hunters per hunt and 6 bear hunters a year. This insures a high success rate on harvesting big bears. Success runs about 100% in seeing one or more bears. Most black bears taken are mature boars, many of which have qualified for the Pope and Young Record Book. 50% of the all bears taken are color phased bears.

We hold an outfitter permit from the Big Horn National Forest and bear bait permits from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. It is very rare to see another hunter in this area. We hunt over baits at 6000 to 9000 feet. Some bait-stations have been set up for over 30 years. Be prepared to do some horseback riding - our pack-in tent camp is located six miles from the nearest road. Camp is located at 7000 feet. Expect cold nights and warm days.

Moose hunts: Our Moose season runs September 10 thru November 10. We hunt Moose from our base-camp in the Washakie Wilderness located in moose area 11. We take only one moose hunter per year to insure a successful hunt. Those who hunt with us will be hunting the Wyoming or Shiras Moose. It may be taken with a gun or bow. Hunters have an excellent chance to harvest a record bull with a bow.

Big horn sheep hunts: Our sheep season runs September 1 thru October 20. We hunt Big Horn Sheep in areas 1 thru 5, mainly area 4. Sheep are hunted out of our base-camp in the Washakie Wilderness or out of spike camps. We take only a few sheep hunters per year. The success rate of our hunters harvesting a mature ram is nearly 100%.

Sheep hunting is a physically demanding hunt. We track the sheep in the high-country in their summer and fall feeding grounds which requires long and rigorous walks. This hunt requires a hunter to be in top shape. About 8-10 years ago, Tim decided not to take Biog Horn Sheep hunters for a awhile in order to allow the sheep in the area to mature. Last year many of our elk hunters saw and photographed many 7/8 and full curl rams within 100 yards. We will again be taking Big Horn Sheep hunters into the area. This is a great opportunity to take a big ram.
