This trek explores the wild and remote hinterland using some of the historical tracks and paths that have shaped the history of the region. Our route climbs hills and ventures into wild corries home to golden eagles, mountain hares and deer.Starting in Fort William we walk to Spean Bridge before heading into the remote area behind the Grey Corries where we spend one night. Now heading west we follow the Blackwater Reservoir before descending into a beautiful wooded valley with the sound of water crashing through narrow gorges towards Kinlochleven. Our route then makes a large arc and crosses the Mamores into the beautiful Glen Nevis making this one of the finest walking days in the Highlands.
We will have one “rest day” in Fort William before tackling Ben Nevis. There is the opportunity to take “the world’s greatest rail journey” (Wanderlust magazine) on the Jacobite Steam Train to Mallaig, or just relax and take a short walk in Fort William area. Accommodation Accommodation will be provided in comfortable local hand-picked B&B/Guesthouses apart from one night where we will stay in small dormitory rooms. Walking Grade Typically we will walk an average of 7 - 9 hours each day including breaks and covering a distance of up to 25 km. Ascent and descents will range from 200 – 1,000 meters a day. The ascent of Ben Nevis is just over 1,300 meters. The route will be on a mix of terrain; including tracks, footpaths and sections of rough mountain ground. A good level of fitness is required and previous hill walking experience is an advantage. Notes:
