Snow sheep inhabit the most remote, inhospitable, and practically inaccessible areas in Siberia and Russian Far East. Therefore, this great animal is very rarely hunted, maintaining a stable population for the past several decades. For this hunt, we can take you to the Kamchatka Peninsula, or to the mountainous shores of the Okhotsk Sea, where on a good day, one can see up to 30 sheep on the coastal mountains from the boat; or to Yakutia, the heart of Siberia. The best trophies are taken in Kamchatka and along the Okhotsk Sea. The Yakut hunts are the most affordable and have an average success rate of 80%.

The hunts are conducted in an area located 2 hours flying distance from the town of Zyryanka. The sheep can be found at altitudes between 1500 – 2000 meters (4500 - 6500 ft) above the sea level. A high population of sheep allows for a success rate of over 90%. Trophies are up to 40”. Temperatures can range from +5 to +20 C (40-70 F) to - 10 C (5 F) at the end of September. Hunters are expected to be physically fit. The hunter may spend a few nights away from the base camp and may be required to ride a horse We recommend wearing leather mountain boots and water repellent clothes and to pack a light sleeping bag. Argali Sheep

Marco Polo is the largest and the most magnificent sheep in the world. Its habitat covers the relatively small Southern territories of the Central Asian Republics, including the bordering countries. This sheep can be found on altitudes of 3500 to 4500 meters, making the hunt physically demanding. Stalking the sheep requires a great deal of patience. Shots are frequently taken from distances 200 to 400 meters. A significant advantage is familiarity of handling a horse. Local horses are well adapted to high altitudes. Travel on horseback enables one to cover longer distances, with less physical pain, in search of the perfect ram. Strict regulations by governmental and international agencies allow the Marco Polo population to remain stable. For example, out of approximately 14,000 sheep found in Kirghizstan, only about a hundred can be taken each year.

Kyrghyzstan Argali Sheep

Kyrghyzstan argali is in average somewhat smaller than Tajikistan. However, trophies in excess of 50 inches and up to 60 a not unusual. Hunting takes place at altitudes of 3,500 - 4,500 meters and requires reasonable physical endurance. Hunters should expect to spend up to 6-8 hours per day riding horses. A car ride from Bishkek to the hunting area takes up to 16 hours, but it is possible to charter a helicopter instead for an additional cost. Daytime temperature is around +10 C (+50 F) in the fall and –20 C (-4 F) in the winter, at night it can drop to -20C (-13F). Hunters are required to bring sleeping bags, sunglasses and a sunscreen. Shots are expected within 250 - 400 yards range, therefore flat shooting rifle with good optics and a range finder are very important.
