Just across the Wyoming - South Dakota border, a short distance from Mt. Rushmore, lies one of our finest rock climbing areas. The town of Custer is a few minutes drive from Custer State Park and Sylvan Lake where dramatic rock spires and pinnacles make up the Needles of South Dakota.
Vertical rock with tiny crystals for holds leading to spear-sharp summits will test your mental and physical skills to the limit.
Routes are usually traditional, often with daunting run-outs, but modern well-protected bolted routes also abound. Climbs are usually one or two pitches long, although longer routes exist.
The area is a well-kept secret, uncrowded, and one of the best places to get in a lot of high quality rock climbing in a short time.
We stay in Custer and drive to the climbing area daily. Custer has a number of good motels and restaurants. Lunches are available at the Sylvan Lake coffee shop near the climbs.
We meet by arrangement in Custer. Custer can be reached from the Rapid City airport by rental car. We will pick you up at the airport if you wish.
Incredible climbing, solitude, and the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. That's the Needles. Go there once and you'll be hooked for life.
It is possible to combine a climbing trip to the Needles with a foray to the nearby Devil's Tower.

Single booking - $220.00 per day
Multiple booking - $160.00 each per day
Price includes all guide fees, Clients pay for their own room and board.
Early registration is suggested. Confirmation will be made upon receipt of a deposit of $50 per person per day. This deposit will be refunded less a 10% handling fee if client cancels no later than two weeks prior to the trip.
Price includes ground transportation to and from the Rapid City airport (if needed).
