The biggest bears in the world make their home in Alaska. You can expect to be put on a spot where your binoculars become the most important piece of equipment you carry.

You will be looking out over alder thickets and willow patches for the movement of that big grizzly that is either bedding down or finding food. When you spot that trophy bruin then it’s time to execute a stalk.

Now is when the hunt becomes interesting.

Sneaking up on a bear to get into range requires a hunter to utilize the wind and the landscape to his benefit. You must get within range for a shot that ensures an efficient kill, but you must also be far enough away that you don’t endanger yourself. This requires patience as well as skill. This is also why a seasoned guide is a necessity when hunting Alaska’s interior grizzly.

Bear hunting in Alaska requires some pre-planning. The proper equipment is a must. Before you even get to Alaska make absolutely sure your rifle is properly sighted in. The accuracy of your rifle could make the difference between a successful hunt or a dangerous ending.

The hunters that have the most enjoyable time are those that have high-quality rain gear. Moisture and wind can combine to make a hunter miserable, unless they are protected with clothing that provides comfort even in the most adverse conditions.

The biggest mistake hunters make when they come to Alaska to hunt is not in their mental attitude or physical abilities, it’s that they just pack too much useless gear. Alaska’s Last Frontier Safaris provides a comprehensive list of everything the hunter will need. Packing any more than that is simply a waste of space and will deter from the enjoyment of this once in a lifetime hunt.

Hunting bears in Alaska can be safe, enjoyable, and rewarding. Discover what a true bear hunting adventure is.
