The caribou is the most prolific big-game animal in Alaska, and it is a species that hunters young and old love to hunt.

Alaska's last Frontier Safaris hunts the largest herd in the state, the Mulchatna herd, which averages around 200,000 animals annually.

Caribou hunting starts early in August and this means that the father or mother that wants to take their school-aged child on a trophy hunt in Alaska will find this hunt satisfies their needs. But don’t think that caribou hunting with Alaska’s Last Frontier Safaris is not for the serious trophy hunter. When hunting this herd the ability to take a trophy caribou is well within your grasp.

When you step out onto the arctic tundra you realize that millions of hoofs have passed below your boots. It’s like travelling back in time and you realize that the wilderness has no forgiveness to those that don’t respect its magnitude. There will be time to hunt and there will be caribou to glass, but for the moment you stand in awe of Alaska's majestic beauty.

As the herd migrates past your position your binoculars rest on the caribou that will fall to your well-placed shot. Caribou are a spot-and-stalk animal and once you see the perfect caribou then it’s time to set up your ambush. Too often hunters believe that caribou are an easy trophy. In fact, skill is involved when it comes to putting that kill shot on the animal you choose.

Caribou camp consists of bomb-shelter tents pitched in the heart of the migration path. Alaska’s Last Frontier Safaris keeps a close tab on the movement of the herd so that all camps will be in or ahead of the caribou in our units.

Count on having fun on a Caribou hunt.
