This is a relaxed instructional trip for beginners and novice canoers. It is a shorter, 48km (30 mile) trip which escapes many of the difficult rapids by starting further down the river but still has the beautiful Grand Chute to portage and visit.
The Dumoine is the most dramatic of Quebec's western rivers. Pine topped bluffs rising 200 m (600 ft.), beautiful waterfalls; sparkling beaches, spectacular cliffs, remarkable camping sites and enchanting scenery. The historic Dumoine, in the heart of Canada's pine country, drops over 150 m (500 ft.) to the Ottawa River.
We will fly from Rapides-des-Joachims (off highway 17 at Rolphton, Ontario) to Burnt Island Lake in a Beaver aircraft with our canoes to begin our descent.
Special Notes:
- The Dumoine is probably the most popular canoe-tripping river in Québec. It is also one of the best for learning and practicing white water skills. There will be lots of time for instruction. Optional hikes to take in exceptional views and interesting waterfalls complete the trip. No white water experience is necessary but some canoing experience would help.
- This 5-day trip is especially recommended for those people with little canoing experience, but who want to see Canadian nature at its best.
Notes:
All trips are payable in Canadian dollars. The U.S. price is approximate only and will depend on the exchange rate.
