Southern Lakes Hunting Guides is based in Queenstown making us very fortunate, as we are located within the heart of some of the best hunting in the world, boasting access to a wide variety of game animals including Fallow deer, Red deer, Whitetail deer, Chamois, Himalayan Thar and Goats. Southern Lakes Hunting Guides understand that many people come to the Southern Lakes Region of New Zealand for a vacation and often have limited time available in their busy holiday schedules. However a hunt could be a perfect addition to a New Zealand adventure.

Southern Lakes Hunting Guides offers tailor made hunting packages from half day hunts for meat or management animals through to packages aimed at securing trophies. The trips aimed at securing trophies can keep you entertained for up to a couple weeks, staying in any type of accommodation that one desires from beautiful lodges to fly camping in the mountains or backcountry huts, although you may prefer to stay in the comfort of a hotel each night and be picked up each morning.

Access to our unique hunting landscape is usually via 4x4 utility vehicle, boat or helicopter. Helicopter is a useful means of travel saving much time and allowing access to remote locations. The hunting opportunities are endless. Every hunt is tailor made to suit each every individual’s budget and time available ranging from half day hunts for one game species to full packages chasing a mixed bag. Hunting Options:
- Thar/Chamois (All year): It is necessary to make this a multi day trip, unless helicopters are utilised. Helicopters are the most efficient way to access suitable terrain for chasing Chamois and Thar and are recommended to be used even on a multi day hunt; in the long run they will save you much time and energy accessing suitable terrain.
- Red Stags (Can be hunted from February to September)
- Fallow bucks (Can be hunted from March to September)
- Red/Fallow Hinds (All Year)
- Goats (All Year)
- Rabbit (All Year).
