Wild and Free Hunting. Hunting is only during the rut from mid-July to mid-August each year. New Caledonia is a "Tropical Island". Warm during the day and cool at night. For the bow hunters there are two heavily used deer trails through heavy bush. Several hundred Rusa females use these trails which attracts the stags.
