Clear waters, in an ecological reserve just north of the province of Corrientes, Argentina called Yahapé. The natural beauty is without equal in an estuary with numerous creeks, rivers and tributary streams that flow into the Parana River. It is the perfect scenario for fishing beautiful dorados, and other extremely sport fish like pacues and the rare pira-pitá (powerful fish that we call “Parana salmon” with fly and lures. Piaparas and Pintados (a big catfish) complement the list of the most-desired sportive species.
Accommodations are excellent in a real ranch in northern Argentina that has been transformed into a lodge for only 8 rods per week. The structure has excellent guides specialized in fly-fishing and very comfortable motor boats. All this makes it an exclusive operation in a rarely visited place. An operation of international standards with all of the requirements for unforgettable fishing.
Fishing
Fishing is done on channels, rivers and streams that flow into the Parana River, situated on the Yahapé and Repeski estuaries. The region contains the nature typical of a tropical rain forest, between the morphology of the wilderness of Parana and the Corrientes Savannah. Abundant wildlife is present in the estuary, capturing the preservation of the site. The very clear water is the great attraction and perfect for fly-fishing. The schools of dorados and pirapitás hunt near the riverbanks around the submerged trunks, branches, logs in small runs and normally with surface action and sight-fishing.
One interesting characteristic of this fishing is that with the same equipment and bait we can catch as many dorados (average 3 to 16 pounds) as beautiful pira-pitás (from 3 to 13 pounds). These fish are really strong and once hooked starts long runs and many jumps. Another highlight in the program is fishing for Pacues (from 2 to 18 pounds). For those adept at fly fishing, Pacu (our freshwater permit) is a fantastic challenge and extremely rewarding. Many schools of fish are located near the riverbanks and under the fruit trees. In these places, precise casting with imitations of fruit, beetles and grasshoppers bring excellent results. And the Pacues fight on the fly is truly unforgettable.
For the fisherman using either fly or bait casting, the region is unique and fantastic, as it is possible to fish Dorados, large pira-pitás and beautiful Pacues all on the same day using floating lines. A real grand slam on the Parana River basin.
During the low-water season, in determinate locations, it is possible to do some wade fishing on the beaches casting out onto the opposite margin, where the structures are. As we are equipped with shallow-draft boats, we have access to the places where the common boats of the region do not, and this makes a big difference.
