Irigoyen and Malengüena Rivers form tributaries of a privileged basin. Its unique geography and landscape with the austral Atlantic Ocean on the very tip of the Andes Mountains surrounded with amazing beech trees “Lengas” and “ñires” a natural beauty.
The fishery is located 180 kilometers south of the city of Rio Grande, in the Tierra del Fuego province. The Irigoyen and the Malengüena River holds a healthy population of sea run brown trout, as well as resident brownies in less extensive areas. We are not certain of the existence of other species in these unexplored rivers, but locals have told us that brooks and rainbows have been seen in the furthest pools within the mountains.
One of the most outstanding qualities of the Irigoyen's river basin is the geographical and biological diversity: a delightful spot on the mountains in the heart of impressive forest of Lengas and ñires along with clear flowing rivers throughout the valleys.
Region: The "transition" zone is a spectrum from beautiful mountains to the immensely Austral Sea where fallen lengas, trees and shrubs are combed by the wind. The mouth of the Irigoyen's river runs towards the sea throughout several kilometers, full of picturesque deep pools flowing gently between a mantle of green and magenta moss. The hill formation ends into the sea and this is a great opportunity to enjoy a moving panoramic vista.
The amount and variety of wildlife that inhabit the river valley is surprising: wild bulls, guanacos, foxes, beavers, and hundreds of species different from marine to inland birds, in addition to the condors that fly over our long walk when we come across the river towards the mountains. The Malenguena River is completely different from the Irigoyen River, but both of them share a great size of sea trout population. The river flows slower along the world's famous Tierra del Fuego (Spanish for “Land of Fire”) filled with amber waters, deep, small, and perfectly fishable throughout its bendy course. The best spots are the curves where semi submerged logs are grouped together.
The Malenguena is a tributary of the Irigoyen River, attractive and desolate, with an extension of approximately 15 kilometers.
Fishing: The rivers hold an abundant population of sea run brown trout, an exclusive fishery in private waters where fly anglers will be able to enjoy one hand light fly-rods, among a unique landscape, without suffering whips permanent of strong austral winds, (except in pools near the mouth and in the sea itself), battling with enormous, wild and fresh fish.
In 2008 we will be launching our first season, operating the fishery with expert guides, brand new amphibian vehicles to reach the furthest spots, remodeled cabins, excellent Argentinean kitchen, only 4 anglers per week.
We are confident that you'll have a unique angling experience with us. So this is a special invitation for you all, really serious anglers and friends to visit the world end to enjoy our new jewel: Irigoyen and Malengüena Rivers in Tierra del Fuego, the best kept secret in Tierra del Fuego.
The Sea-Run Brown Trout is a magnificent fish that live in the sea, growing at an incredible rate and migrating annually to the rivers. Strength, subtleness, long runs and unbelievable jumps make this specie a trophy long yearned among the sportsmen all over the world. Fishing techniques are similar to the Atlantic salmon that require an art developed from century old tradition of fly fishing.
This private waters destination in Tierra del Fuego is very different from other places especially known for strong winds like the Rio Grande basin. The area of Irigoyen and Malenguena is naturally protected by mountains and the forest. For this reason, fisherman can take advantage and use lighter equipment, utilizing all different techniques with the wild and strong sea-runs that start to enter the river normally from the month of November. These small rivers will really call your attention, especially for the trout weighing commonly from 4 to 13 pounds up to the surprisingly mark of 20-25 pounds.
Our guides had scouted carefully many stretches of these two rivers and they fished up to 20 pound sea-runs in pools with less than 40 meters of width. They are bilingual and extremely experienced especially in first class sea-run fishing operations in Rio Grande – Tierra del Fuego.
These waters are remote and unexplored becoming now a reality with our exclusive project to bring together a fishing adventure at an international level.
