M17062 is one of the most unique fisheries on the Kenai Peninsula because to the best of my knowledge, it is the only fishing lodge with private access. Situated in the Wilderness of Port Graham, our Rocky & Windy Rivers are available only to fishermen fishing with M17062. With the incredible overcrowding the peninsula waters experience throughout the summer, this opportunity is priceless. Just think no shoulder to shoulder fishing, no boats, no civilization and no rushing – just pure unadulterated wilderness! Equally important, there is never any hustle in your stay at Rocky River Lodge. We prefer that the guests set the tempo for the day when it comes to fishing, meals and relaxation. Looking out the front window of your two person log cabin across Rocky Lake is enough to make any sportsmen want to stay forever. Accommodating only 12 fishermen, each cabin accommodates 2 persons and is comfortable, warm and only a short walk to the Camp Lodge. Additionally, detached private baths are convenient to the cabins and well maintained. Begin each morning with a fresh cup of hot coffee followed with a hearty breakfast and that, will set the pace for the day.
From the Gulf of Alaska the annual spawn of Chum (Dog), Humpback (Pink) and Coho (Silver) Salmon and (Dolly Varden) (char) into Rocky and Windy River begin in July and continue well into and past September. With the spawns overlapping, you can often enjoy catching two species or more during your trip throughout the season. With every high tide fresh fish will enter the rivers to spawn and the fish already there will continue up river which will provide you countless opportunities and locations to catch fish.
Fly Fisherman, Spin fisherman – regardless, our rivers will afford you action filled days. Your guide will drive you from location to location on the river to keep you on fresh fish and while most fishing is only a moderate walk from the vehicle, once there you will have plenty of water and room to fish. While most rivers only enjoy a pink Spawn on even years our rivers experience a spawn annually and what action. Pinks up to 8 pounds are common and there table fair is excellent. The big dogs, (chum) are the first to enter our rivers and fish up to 15 pounds are caught each season. Whether you’re using a salmon bunny or a #4 vibrex you are in for great action. These strong fish will test you rod and line every time! With the cooler temperatures of late August come the Silvers, big, shiny and fast. Fishermen continue to be amazed day after day at the strength and size of our silvers. Silvers up to 18 pounds have been caught and many in the 14 pound class are caught regularly.
