Golden Trout are the most elusive and difficult trout to catch, however, they are the most colorful and thrilling to pursue. Our area is without a doubt one of the best Golden Trout areas in the country. Our Wind River Mountains are the home to the World Record Golden Trout.
If fishing builds patience, Golden trout fishing can hone that fine edge. I've fished all day and only caught a few, and then there are those days that they just explode out of the water at you.
These fish are absolutely spectacular. The smaller ones have that cherry colored par marking with white leading edges on the fins. Larger ones get that deep cherry color. Goldens are spring spawners. As the ice begins to come off the lakes they are holding ready to run. When the water temperature climbs up to 34 degrees, they move. It's always wise to have the neoprene waders for Golden fishing.
I have personally guided 5 different IGFA line class world records on Goldens. We've probably turned three times that many back without ever recording them.
