The Kazan, one of Canada's premier Heritage Rivers, flows through the heart of Nunavut Territory's barrenlands. The landscape varies from lush tundra to rugged hills and plains. You have an unmatched opportunity to see migrating caribou, muskoxen, barren ground grizzlies, peregrine falcons, and tundra swans.
There is rich evidence of human history as well, with tent rings and inukshuks dotting the landscape. There are numerous opportunities for day hikes to photograph this untouched environment. The river varies from large lakes to exciting whitewater sections as it flows towards, and then over Kazan Falls, at Fall Caribou National Historic site. Notes:
