There are over 40 islands in the Vava'u group surrounded by a fringing reef which creates a natural protected nursery for the humpback whales that migrate from Antarctica to Tonga each year to mate and birth. With accommodation onboard our sailing vessel you will spend each day exploring the environment where the whales are.
We board the Melinda at our dock in Neiafu at noon on the first day and return at noon on the last day. This is a custom trip, you decide how many days you want stay (from 4 nights to 10 nights). Each night we anchor at a different island where we can snorkel, explore the island or just relax onboard the yacht and watch the sunset. Healthy meals are served family style with delicious fresh fish and vegetables as well as special Tongan dishes.
“Melinda” is a beautiful 44 ft (15 meter) traditional sailing ketch, extremely safe and stable, she provides a comfortable platform for sailing and photography. We can accommodate up to 4 adult guests. We have a 10 foot (3 meter) inflatable dinghy with a 15-horsepower motor from which you can snorkel.
We often dine on deck, although the comfortable dining area below also provides a perfect atmosphere for sharing the days stories. The boat’s extensive library includes references on the reefs and marine life, and Humpback whales, Tongan history, Tongan art, and environmental issues. On “Melinda” often we are the only boat at an uninhabited island.
