Full-day lesson in rock climbing for non-technical mountaineers. Don't get caught unprepared! Learn simple fundamentals of roped climbing such as belaying, basic equipment use, safety, route-finding, and rappelling. Learn to place safe anchors. Even if you never plan to do technical rock climbing, a familiarity with these techniques will give you an added sense of security in the mountains.
Perfect preparation for climbing the 14ers. This lesson combined with the Snow Climbing and Glacier Travel lesson described in our ice climbing section makes an ideal course for beginning mountaineers. We offer rock climbing lessons year-round in the Boulder, Colorado area. Although Boulder is famous for summer rock climbing, its mild winters make climbing quite pleasant year-round. Autumn is especially beautiful with sunny days and fewer climbers. We also offer lessons in other areas. Previous experience - is not required.
What to Bring:
* We provide all technical equipment including helmets, rock shoes, and harnesses. Students are encouraged to bring any of their own equipment they wish to use.
* Required Equipment:
- Approach shoes (light hiking or jogging shoes for walking to the climbs).
- Rugged comfortable, loose-fitting clothing appropriate for the season.
- Water.
* Suggested Items:
- UV protective sun glasses or glacier goggles.
- Sun screen.
- Food or snacks.
- Camera.
