Experience the wonderful city of Amsterdam (or the other major historic cities: Haarlem, Leiden, The Hague, Delft, Gouda, Rotterdam in the Netherlands). You will both relax and educate yourself while strolling along and talking an art historian. I will take you on a wonderful private cultural walking tour - or I will drive you to any of these cities. Other towns are also possible: Alkmaar, Edam, Monnickendam. High quality, highly informed conversation and yet in a plain, accessible language (whatever language you choose to speak - I am fluent in Dutch, English or German. My French and Italian are limited.) We will touch many cultural bases: fine art, history and historic architecture. I will discuss the strong institutions of the Town Government, the Civic Guards, the old age homes and hospitals. However, I can also switch to varied modern topics: For Amsterdam these are the impact of the Theo van Gogh assassination; the landslide nationalist election results; Gay Amsterdam; major changes in the Red Light District; Writers in literary Amsterdam; Development of the harbor area; Amsterdam architectural city planning from 1600-1880-1920-1950-2011 You may also love the Rotterdam harbor, or opt for the great Vermeers and political institutions in The Hague; the stained glass of Gouda. The world famous printing presses of Leiden; the cheese market in Alkmaar. You may want to arrange this VIP treatment for business contacts or friends. This art historian guide will provide a memorable experience. Credentials: Many books and articles published over the years.
