Pick up from hotel early morning, drive for approx. 2 hours and a half for a visit to this still active monastery St. Catherine the situated at the foot of Mount Sinai and home to the same order of monks who constructed it in the 4th Century. On arrival you will be given a guided tour around the working monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest working Christian monastery in the world the monastery was built in the 4th Century enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush, ordered to be built at the site where Moses saw the burning bush.
The living bush on the grounds is purportedly the original!. The site is sacred to Judaism, Christianity. During the seventh century, the isolated Christian anchorites of the Sinai were eliminated: only the fortified monastery remained. The monastery is still surrounded by the massive fortifications that have preserved it. Until the twentieth century, access was through a door high in the outer walls. From the time of the First Crusade, the presence of Crusaders in the Sinai until 1270 spurred the interest of European Christians and increased the number of intrepid pilgrims who visited the monastery. Although the history of the Monastery is very interesting, a lot of our customers enjoyed this excursion for the views and sights alone. Following a guided tour of St. Catharine monastery you will relax and have a delicious lunch before driving to Dahab, the biggest shopping area in South Sinai. Here you will get the chance to browse for local Egyptian handicrafts, carpets, jewelers, perfumes, papyrus and other souvenirs. Drive back to Sharm approx. 1.20 hours. Notes:
