Altun Ha
Explore the ancient ruins of the mysterious city of Altun Ha which was occupied around 200BC. to 900AD. One of the smallest and yet most important trading centers in Belize, Altun Ha is where the revered jade head was found – a 10lb jade elaborately carved into the head of the Maya Sun God, Kinich Ahau. The jade head, now a national treasure, sits under heavy security in a local vault. Exploring and climbing these ruins one will surely feel overwhelmed by the ancient architecture as well as the enchanting buildings and landscape. Altun Ha which lies approximately 30 miles north of Beize occupies around 8 sq. km and lies about 6miles west of the Caribbean seashore. The largest temple, temple of the Masonry Altars is 54 ft high and a drawing of this temple is the logo for Belize’s national beer. This ancient archeological wonder of Altun Ha is only one hour from Belize City and has level terrain for comfortable walking. This tour is 3 hours in length
