Oia, pronounced "Eeeha", during the 19th century was inhabited by great navigators and exported wine overseas becoming "The Pearl of the Aegean Sea" for its beauty and wealth. But after a great earthquake, it was destroyed. Nowadays represents an artistic center with its characteristic houses built within the volcanic earth "hanging" off the cliff. Notes:
