A wine tour to explore and taste Barolo and Barbaresco wines and visit with your private expert guide the Langhe area in the southern part of Piedmont, the town of Alba famous for the annual White Truffle Fairs and the famous hilltop villages of Barolo and Barbaresco surrounded by historical vineyards and famous for the production of extraordinary wines.
In your private wine tour enjoy a visit of the most important and representative sites of the Langhe area. Visit Grinzane Cavour where you will visit the impressive XIII century castle which also hosts the Cavour Regional Enoteca, a prestigious showcase for the very best Piedmontese wines and grappas, and an ethnographic museum with rare articles relating to the local food and wine tradition. Visit the small town of Barolo, the town where the “king of wines” was first produced in the XIX century. Visit of the historic cellars of a renowned Barolo producer, and learn the techniques employed in the production of this refined garnet red-coloured wine. Wine -tasting will follow the visit. Short walk up to the Falletti di Barolo castle erected in the X century as a bastion against invasions, and later home the French Marquise Juliette Colbert, the lady who created Barolo wine. Possibility of visiting the Regional Enoteca of Barolo inside the castle. During the tour a stop is foreseen in one of the most scenic places of the Lower Langa, the village of La Morra. From the square you can see the beginning of a spectacular row of hills that seem to be chasing after each other. A tour of the town of Alba, once called the “One Hundred Towers Town”, famous for the International White Truffle Fair which occurs each year in October. Stroll through the historic centre, here you have free time for some shopping along the Via Maestra and for having lunch (at leisure) in one of the several cafés or resturants of the town. Your tour continue with the visit of Barbaresco area, north-east of Alba, with a first stop in the village of Barbaresco itself with the imposing squared tower built in the late XI century to protect the village from foreign invaders. Walk in the tiny historic centre where we can stop at the Regional Enoteca of Barbaresco located in the deconsecrated church of San Donato. Then the tour bring you to visit a Barbaresco-producing winery in one of the three villages which are allowed to produce this wine, i.e. Barbaresco, Neive or Treiso.
