We offer five individual modules in the following areas of German literary history.
1. Age of Enlightenment: Lessing
2. Sturm and Drang period: Goethe and Schiller
3. Romantic era: E.T.A. Hoffmann
4. Late bourgeois literature from Thomas Mann to Franz Kafka
5. Bertolt Brecht and his Berliner Ensemble theater company.
We would also be pleased to hear about your own particular areas of literary interest and will gladly expand our repertoire to include these. The modules combine intensive study of writers and their historical context, with an exploration of Berlin’s literary treasures. The knowledge of literary history which you will gain from the lectures will be brought to life through visits to theaters, museums, memorials, historical graveyards and the former homes of writers.
