Designed for beginners to cruising, and aimed at people who would like to become active crew not just passengers... Yes you do actually get to do lots of steering.
Day Skipper (non-tidal)
This course is for aspiring skippers who have some yachting/sailing experience.Your chance to be safely and skillfully in charge.
Coastal Skipper (non-tidal)
A more advanced course for those with considerable knowledge looking to skipper yachts for longer passages or perhaps also looking towards taking Certificates of Competency. Your chance to skipper a boat across to Sicily. (under expert supervision).
Yachtmaster Preparation
This is the serious end of sail training. A course made to prepare you for the Yachtmaster Offshore examination. The ultimate qualification for pleasure yachtsman. This award can also lead to commercial endorsements.
Shorebased Courses(Theory)
Basic Navigation and Safety. It is an introduction to basic navigational techniques, together with safety and seamanship. This is an ideal course for users of small craft. So if you have a RIB, small day boat or a small inshore fishing boat then this course could be for you.
Day Skipper
A course designed for those with some practical yachting experience. It provides information on navigation (both traditional and electronic),good seamanship and meterology. (Basic tidal matters are included). An ideal course to take in conjunction with the practical Day Skipper course.
Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster
A way to build on your existing knowledge of Offshore and Coastal navigation, pilotage,meterology and seamanship. A must for the budding yachtmaster.

Introduction to the RYA.
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) UK has some 2000 affiliated Training Centres in 20 countries, delivering certificated courses to sailors with differing experiences and needs from complete beginners to perspective Yachtmasters.
Sail Training with the RYA has now come to Malta.
Our Training centre, including Boats, Instructors, Safety policies and Course arrangements have been throughly inspected and approved by RYA Inspectors.
RYA sailing courses provide certificates that are known and respected worldwide and are accepted by numerous charter companies

Mile building
Malta Yacht Charters ltd offers a range of organised skippered and bareboat charters around Malta, Sicilian and Italian Waters. We are even organising Mile building and will, by popular request, put together some dates for round Malta cross Sicilian channel and the Aeolian Islands. These are informal mile-building trips designed to build up skippered passage experience and sea time, covering day and night sailing. The use of our new Beneteau Cyclades 50.5 is a great boat to sail with a seasoned and qualified skipper always in the background to give advice and encouragement.
Embarkation on Saturday afternoon gives enough time to prepare the yacht for sea, including the safety checks and, like all good skippers; you undertake passage planning, list crew provisions and victual the boat for the trip. We can accommodate 10 cadets at a time.
Facility Information:
Malta Sailing Academy. Based at Msida Marina and Manoel Island Marina. Providing sail (cruising) training courses both Practical and Shorebased to the highest RYA standards.
Our cruising areas are around the local waters of Malta, Gozo and the delightful Comino. The more advanced courses include more testing passages to the South of Sicily.
Practical Courses take place on our deck saloon Southerly 115 a safe solid built boat with good sailing performance, berthed in Msida Marina. Shorebased (theory) courses are held on board our spacious Beneteau 50.5 sailng yacht berthed in Manoel Island Marina.
