This course will cover a variety of etching techniques, such as line, tone and texture using hard ground, soft ground, aquatint, sugar lift and other techniques, which can be used in combination with other printmaking processes, also introduced as part of the course. This course is suitable for beginners as well as for people who have already completed a printmaking course as this workshop will provide you with the opportunity to further develop yuor skills as well as gain new insights into contemporary printmaking.
This course explores the following:
- Etching and drypoint
- Spit bite
- Sugarlift
- Soft ground
- Hard ground
- Mika and other pigments
- Papers and inks
- Colors and registration
- Monoprint combined with etching
- Collagraphs and aluminographs.
Italian and international students interact in the same classes, making it an ideal venue to share ideas and enhance your overall studio experience. Language: English and Italian.

The courses are run by Colleen Corradi Brannigan, a practising printmaker and artist.

It is an ideal base for further exploration as it is located near castles, forts, churches and abbeys which are well worth a visit.
Facility Information:
Set at the foot of the Abruzzi mountains, in Italy, Dedalo Center for Contemporary Art is in Castiglione a Casauria, in the province of Pescara. It is ideally situated in the center of Abruzzo only about one hour from Rome and about 30 minutes from Pescara.

The course fee Euro 320 includes: 6 days tuition 9.00 am to 4.00 pm - use of all equipment, tools, and all basic materials (ink, pigments, muslin, solvents, oils etc.). Materials such as good quality printmaking papers and printing plates are available to purchase.
