Our Cape Cod workshop will center painting and drawing in and around Chatham on the Cape. Our first orientation meeting will be at the Cranberry Inn on Monday May 17 at 9:00 am. We will have an oil painting demonstration on the grounds of this historic Inn. Our emphasis at this workshop will be on composition, values and color. Through a series of design steps, we will show the artist how to create a compelling work of art based on design of the work.
Drawing skills will be emphasized and yet the artist will be left free to explore their own individual styles of painting. From a classical landscape painting perspective, we will also explore the 5 steps in making space recede. All levels of painters are welcome as well as all media.
When you register I will include a supplies list and some strongly recommended reading on composition, drawing, and color. We take no more than 12 artists at a time. We have over 70% of artists and their guests returning to our workshops in the US and in Italy every year.
Faculty Information:
Sam D'Ambruoso of Middlebury, CT has been professionally painting landscapes and portraits since 1972. With over ten years experience in teaching workshops and art instruction in the United States and in Italy, his artists' workshops in Tuscany, Amalfi, as well as Old Lyme, CT and Block Island, RI have been widely acclaimed by past participants. A graduate of Providence College, he has studied with the internationally renowned landscape painter. In the fall of 2006, he studied advanced portraiture with Peter Cox at the Art Students League, NYC. In 2007 he continued in portraiture with noted artist, Laura Stern Boeck of Katonah, NY.
He has taught portrait drawing in area colleges as well as in an intense 10-week course on oil painting. He has on-going classes in Middlebury on general painting and portraiture. He is a member of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society and the Plein Air Painters of America. Current projects include original paintings of the New England, Tuscany, Amalfi, and Capri Italy as well as selected portrait commissions. He has been elected a landscape-painting instructor at the 2004 Arts and Materials Show, sponsored by American Artist Magazine, in Pasadena, CA. Many of his paintings are in public and private collections worldwide. His most recent landscape of the Connecticut River area was selected by Governor M. Jodi Rell and installed at the State of Connecticut Governor’s residence.

Facility Information:
Our base is The Cranberry Inn, Chatham, a lovely bed and breakfast. Each morning a full breakfast is served and at 3pm Tea and cookies are set out for guests. Most rooms have private baths and each room is decorated in traditional early colonial decor.
