The course leader, Yvonne Fuchs, writes: Creativity is a hotline to the subconscious, the true self, therefore it is a pure and fast way to get to the heart of things, to feel empowered and connected to yourself. The Art of Knowing Yourself provides the environment, tools and techniques to achieve this.
It draws its ideas from many holistic traditions, both spiritual and artistic, but is predicated on the notion, that when we connect to our deepest self we find a huge source of inspiration and connection for creativity and healing. The course is based on the course leader's 28 years working as an artist, educator and animateur as well as her experience working with art therapy and image work.
This course has run successfully as an adult education course for over 10 years and was recently published as a book, The Art of Knowing Yourself, which we will use as the basis for the workshop. We will meet each day to explore an aspect of creativity. I will lead you through a number of exercises and you will also work on some of your own ideas, culminating in a personal project that you may like to continue in your own time.
We will use a variety of media: painting, drawing, collage and earth art. We will work within our own studio space as well as in the environment as much as we can. This course will not be prescriptive but will be run in the way I have always taught, encouraging personal ideas, development and exploration. Our themes will include, experiencing, feeling, imagining, playing, experimenting and the mandala. You need not be an artist to join this workshop, only an interest in creativity and an openness to experiment.
Yvonne Fuch's writes:
I have a profound love affair with colour and nature, and with encouraging others to find ‘life’ through art and creativity. I have studied many of the ‘greats’ in art, and try to bring their understandings to my own and my students’ work. My passion for world culture, spirituality, travel and artifacts has encouraged me to try new ways of working, bringing this enthusiasm to my teaching, and community arts work.
As an educator who has taught for many years in both Adult education, and the art school system. I am passionate about inspiring my students to find their own style and media to express themselves in their work. I ran a dynamic textile design department teaching all aspects of textiles for many year, and still love this element of the creative world.
Whether teaching in the studio, or painting in Provence, I love to encourage students to have fun, play and be alive. I still also love to work bring art alive in the community, and now have the joy of being able to work in the developing world, as well as nearer to home. My own work is the source of my inspiration and energy, and it continues to develop in new and interesting ways.
As an artist I see my work as an essential expression of who I am – making art, whether on paper, in stone or in the landscape is one of my deepest joys. It is a journey of exploration, one that I undertake with reverence for the natural world, and the inner landscape, one that I love to share with others.
