Trinidad Panorama Study Tour
Pan Players of the world can participate in Panorama, study straight ahead jazz on pan and learn tuning and pan making from Trinidad Masters. You will be guests at D’Lime Inn of the Diego Martin Pan Institute. While participating with local steelbands including Merry tones, Invaders, Silver Stars, Phase II and Starlift to vie for a place in the band for the Panorama competition, you will also enjoy band class weekly at the Pan Institute. You will work with Lightning George to study straight ahead jazz on steelpan. You will be taught the fundamentals of pan tuning from the inventor of the double tenor pan and master tuner himself, Bertie Marshall. Introduction to pan making will be taught by master pan maker, Cindy Rosemin of Panland in Laventille. This 6 week program can be adjusted to a shorter time period upon request. Panorama rehearsals begin in early January. The preliminary round of competition is January 28 with the finals on February 18. All pan students at the Diego Martin Pan Institute will participate in The Straight Ahead Jazz Concert. This concert will be dedicated to Bertie Marshall as he celebrates his 76th birthday. This study tour includes a trini breakfast daily, 3 hours weekly pan workshops, transportation to and from local panyards as well as your airport transfers, tickets to 4 calypso tents and one soca fete, a maracas beach trip complete with bake and shark, practice space, wifi, international phone calls to 60 countries, local phone calls, a swimming pool, air conditioned bedrooms., band participation in J’ouvert, And an experience of a lifetime.
