Traveling around the globe – whether for touristic or other purposes – offers you plenty of photo opportunities. At the same time, time schedules and weather conditions do not always guarantee the most perfect conditions for photography.

Course topics:

You learn to handle situations you encounter – from blazing sunshine, to lack of light, from strong winds, and a ban on using your flash, to large crowds – to make the best of your images while traveling. We show you different ways to stabilize your camera, how to deal with light, how to make good use of your fellow travel companions and how to capture the essence of a place.
Photo shoots on different locations are combined with discussing and viewing the results. The travel photography course covers a wide range of subjects: from nature and landscape photography to interior photography and capturing people and streetlife.

Photography Field Trips:
What better places to practice than on great locations like the vegetable market in the town of Sparta, a Greek village square, the Byzantine castle of Mystras, the fortress town of Monemvasia or the impressive landscape and virgin shores of the Mani peninsula.

Local events:
You can shoot some of your greatest travel images during local events. Religious festivals, local markets, parades, and traditional activities like harvesting, sheep herding or the making of local cheese create fine photo opportunities. As people are busy, it gives you plenty of time to photograph. Where possible we integrate local events into the program for travel photography. This short course in travel photography can easily be combined with the Nature Photography course or be preceded by the Learning Digital Photography course.

Faculty Information:
Anton Harfst is a professional photographer, specialized in outdoor photography. He lives and works on the Peloponnese, close to Sparta, and loves to share his passion for photography and Greece.

Other Activities:
We plan the outdoor workshop locations of each workshop in consultation with the participant. Thus they can be combined with visits to specific locations, sites, or museums, or with special events, ranging from olive or grape harvest to local festivals and music or theatre.

Facility Information:
We are located in an old stone house in Xirokambi, 15 km south of Sparta. The workshop accommodation is located on the ground floor. Here we view the photo's together at the end of each day. If you do not carry a laptop, you can use one of our computers to download and backup your photos. Participants can enjoy our vine-covered terrace and garden with olive and orange trees. In the village you'll find cafes, restaurants and shops.
