Provence Plein Air Workshop
The beauty of Provence is the dream of a lifetime for every painter. Great masters such as Cezanne and Van Gogh have discovered it far before, and transmitted their love to us. To me it was love at first sight!
The Painting Program
The main purpose of the workshop is to take the student to the next skill level and increase self-confidence. The morning session includes demonstrations and exercises on the topic of the day, followed by free and supervised painting outdoor in the afternoon. A final critique meeting is also scheduled.
Media & Topics
Most popular media are welcome (oil, watercolor, acrylics and dry media). We'll study composition and value structure, color theory and mixing, brushwork and expressive concepts. For each media, will experience the process of direct 'alla prima' and were needed and were needed, the use of tools and mediums.
The method is adapted individually. Beginners will take advantage of an intensive week of practice and los of notes to bring home. Experts can also experiment new expressive strategies.
Francesco Fontana is a professional artist with long years experience in oil, watercolor and all main academic and contemporary art techniques. He's the chairman of the Artists Association Fare Pittura. He teaches regular classes in Milan, Italy all year round. He fluently speaks English, French and Italian and has widely worked as a portrait and landscape artist, exhibiting in France and Italy.
The territories of Vaucluse and Luberon are as vary and inspirational as can be. Excursions and landscape painting include these villages:
- Isle sur la Sorgue - The antique markets hosted most Sundays. It'll be our headquarter
- Fontaine de Vaucluse - From the most powerful source of France a shady pool of emerald green waters
- Roussillon: One of the biggest ochre quarry in the world, with its magnificent red cliffs
- Gordes: The charm of its typical medieval architecture, "one of France's most beautiful villages"
- Luberon, the vineyards region celebrated by the movie A good year with villages as Menerbes
We use to stay at this wonderful B&B just off the town of Isle sur la Sorgue -- great hosts for my groups in the past years. The park of their guesthouse is the perfect venue to paint in absolute quietness.
We usually rent a large car/minubus to drive the group around.
B&B in double occupancy (single also available), the painting workshop, some meals, some supplies and ground transportation. Not included: air/train fare
