The painting workshop
This course - oil or watercolor at your choice - will help you paint "alla prima" - at once. How to prepare your support and palette - from the three basic colors to infinite chromatic scales (color mixing). You’ll learn about design and composition, shadows and lighting, local colors and final touches.
Painting open air will help you to quickly understand what really matters for your work among the elements you see.
Excursions are planned to different sites of Provence. Some demo sessions will take place in the beautiful park of the guest house.
Daily schedule includes a full painting session in then morning and leisure visiting in the afternoon + additional painting time permitting.
Material: a list of essential paints and tools will be available. You can also demand your painting kit for purchase or rent.
Faculty Information:
Thirty years experience with oil and watercolor, Francesco Fontana is chairman of the Artists Association Fare Pittura. He teaches regular classes in Milan, Italy all year round. He fluently speaks English, French and Italian and has widely worked as a portrait and landscape artist, exhibiting in France and Italy (see Profile for more).

Excursions and landscape painting:
- Isle sur la Sorgue - Hundreds of antiques shops and the antique markets hosted most Sundays. It'll be our headquarter
- Fontaine de Vaucluse - From the most powerful source of France a shady pool of emerald green calm waters flows into the river
- Roussillon: One of the biggest ochre deposits in the world, famous for its magnificent red cliffs
- The colour factory: The museum of an ancient plant, a book shop and a store for pigments and painting tools
- Gordes: The charm of its typical medieval architecture, "one of France's most beautiful villages"
- Luberon, the vineyards region celebrated by the movie A good year with villages as Menerbes
- Oppède Le Vieux - Tiny and abandoned for decades: here a lovely hilltop village with the mysterious charm of its chateaux
