This is a Spanish and Diving Course for our students in Cartagena that want to become fluent in Spanish and also independent divers. Many of our students wish to take advantage of the warm, transparent water of the Caribbean to learn scuba diving at the same time that they are improving their Spanish. This is why we designed Spanish and Scuba Diving courses, in a joint venture with the city’s best scuba diving centre.
The scuba diving centre has a Gold Palm Resort of PADI, which is the top distinction that this association awards to scuba diving centres around the world, thanks to the equipment used, the quality of the air, the security systems used and above all to the people participating in the teaching process.
Spanish and scuba diving course PADI Certification for deep waters (EB2)
This is a Spanish course in the mornings, followed by a PADI-certified open waters scuba diving course. This course is recommended for those who want to learn or improve their Spanish and become certified independent scuba divers. Registration for at least two weeks is required. The course can be taken in Cartagena.
The purpose of the autonomous open-waters scuba diving course is to provide students with the knowledge enough to gain experience in the safe environment that characterizes scuba diving. The final aim is enabling learners to scuba dive independently. Instruction material can be borrowed.
- All Nueva Lengua services;
- Spanish course of your choose;
- Theoretical sessions conducted under the PADI self-motivation methodology. Classes are taught preferably in Spanish but if your level of Spanish is not enough to understand, the classes will be taught in English;
- 2 practice sessions in a swimming pool, each session lasting two hours approx.;
- Any necessary personalized counselling;
- All equipment necessary for practicing scuba diving can be borrowed;
- 4 immersions in Open Waters (El Rosario Islands);
- Insurance to cover accidents during immersion.
Spanish and scuba diving mini-course (EB1): This is a Spanish course in the mornings, followed by a scuba diving mini-course in the afternoons. This course is recommended top those travelling to Cartagena for one week or less and wishing to improve their Spanish and at the same time to scuba dive without having to take the complete scuba diving course.
The course has been designed under these standards: this program provides non-divers with the opportunity to dive before developing the complete course.
This experience presents scuba diving as a pleasant and attractive activity, and generates sensations of comfort and security as well as a sense of belonging.
Spanish course and PADI open waters certification course, accommodation in a colonial hotel with A/C, cable, swimming pool, ensuite bathroom and restaurant.
The course is specially recommended for people traveling to the coastal region for a few days, and therefore don’t have enough time to take the complete course. It is also suited for non certified escorts.

- 1 scuba diving theoretical session plus practice in the swimming pool. The class is given preferably in Spanish but English may be used if your Spanish level is not enough yet.
- Transport to El Rosario islands
- Immersion in open waters at El Rosario islands and instructor’s company during immersion
- Rental of scuba diving equipment
- Insurance covering accidents during immersion
Other Activities:
Learning Spanish with Nueva Lengua is an exciting, amusing experience. Social, cultural and sports activities include visits to museums, natural parks, beaches, concerts, sightseeing tours, walks through nature, restaurants, etc. These activities are organized at every one of the schools on a weekly basis (at least two activities per week). They are ideal to practice the language and attain a better understanding of the culture.
Facility Information:
In order to fully enjoy the experience of learning Spanish abroad, it is necessary to get adequate accommodation in the right place. It is clear that people have different tastes, and this is why we offer different types of accommodation to our students:
With a family (homestay accommodation): You will live and share your daily life with a Spanish speaking family. Breakfast and dinner are included and there is washing machine available or your clothes will be washed once a week. Families are chosen carefully, and during your stay you will be another member of the family. We visit the families regularly and we permanently assess their human qualities and the location of their house.
Apartment: If you want more privacy or are planning to come with your family, we can get an apartment for you (apartments available in Bogota, Cartagena).
Hotel: We have agreements with hotels in each one of our sites. There are hotels for all budgets ranging from US$20 per night to 5-star hotels. The hotels that we recommend are always well located and they have been qualified as satisfactory by other students, regardless of the hotel’s price. We have also contacts with very good B&B (Bed & breakfast).
