Our company offers lessons, classes and courses in Thailand that will enable you to enjoy Thailand's culinary arts and its culture through hands-on experience in the kitchen as well as opportunities to explore the country.
Your cooking school is based in the historic northern town of Chiang Mai set against the backdrop of the Doi Suthep Mountains or at the famous Blue Elephant in Bangkok. There you will learn about herbs and spices as well as their substitutes should you not have the correct ingredients at home. Cooking styles and dishes will be demonstrated by a Thai cookery expert and then recreated by you.
Typically you will be collected from your hotel at 09.30 and start the day with a trip to the market or a chat about cooking techniques before preparing a few dishes. Visits to the colorful food markets will be an integral part of the course and you will be encouraged to sample, select and assist in the purchase of fresh produce as part of the course.
Lunch and drinks are provided by the school - in fact you will eat what has been cooked that morning so it pays to listen to the teacher! The course continues after lunch until about 16.00 where you will be free to visit the town or go out with other members of the group. Evenings are free to enjoy the wide range of restaurants, street-food vendors and to visit the bustling night markets of Chiang Mai or Bangkok.
Our clients tend to be like minded people of all ages who would simply love to recreate authentic Thai dishes at home. At the end of the course you will receive a color cook book that includes the recipes you have learnt. Emphasis is on friendliness and open to all levels of cooking competence, beginners are welcome!
Faculty Information:
Classes are run by an English speaking Thai cook at our Cookery School. Our regular course runs over 5 days but is designed to be flexible so that preferences, techniques and menus can be adapted to meet personal tastes and skill requirements. So if you are not too partial to chilli, you can simply put less in your dish! Equally seafood and tofu can be substituted instead of meat.
Other Activities:
You can also extend your stay and explore other parts of south-east Asia. We offer you the opportunity to combine your cooking course with a relaxing stay on Thailand's southern beaches, a visit to the ancient city of Angkor Wat in Cambodia or an experience of Laos' gentle pace and the delights of Unesco's World Heritage town at Luang Phabang.
Facility Information:
At the school everybody has their own work- station with a gas cooker. No washing-up is expected of you and you won't need to bring any equipment. Ingredients used throughout the course are provided and cleaned for you though you will learn how to prepare them as this is an integral part of the Thai cooking technique.
Notes:
Minimum day course is $23 per person per day whereas a day course in the Blue Elephant in Bangkok is $85.
