Faculty Information:
Sam D'Ambruoso of Middlebury, CT has been professionally painting landscapes and portraits since 1972. His artists' workshops in the United States and in Italy, begun in 1997, have been acclaimed by past participants many of whom return year after year.
Mary Ann D'Ambruoso is the Workshop Coordinator. Since 1997, Sam and Mary Ann have hosted International Art Workshops concentrating on Italy and New England. In 2006 a new program was added which presents travel opportunities focused on Italian Culture and Cuisine. She began her hospitality career in 1979 and took her culinary training in NY City at the Professional Culinary Arts Center, The New School for Social Research.
Other Activities:
The ocean vistas and quaint streets give the artist a wealth of material to capture on site and to photograph for later projects. There are many practicing artists living on this tiny island known as “the Bermuda of the North” From the high Mohegan bluffs and dunes tumbling into the Atlantic, to wild Rodman’s Hollow and the picturesque Old Harbor Grand Hotels and gingerbread Bed and Breakfast houses gracing the entire Island – you can’t help but fall in love with Block Island!
Facility Information:
Block Island is located approximately 12 miles off the shores of Rhode Island and Connecticut. It is a treasure trove of delightful Victorian and early New England architecture, beautifully preserved and offering a relaxed laid-back style of elegance recalling by-gone days.
