Artists - This workshop is Non-Instructed but Organized. This is your opportunity to share your experiences with other artists in a creative atmosphere. No instruction. Just Painting! All the details are taken care of by Traveling Palette staff.
Paint en plein air on the beautiful island of Sicily, off the coast of southern Italy. Noted for its unique natural beauty, it will provide the artist with a variety of painting options.
Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Check in at hotel (morning or early afternoon). 1:30 pm Lunch at our selected restaurant. 3 pm painting demonstration – Gardens of Florence Trevelyan. Dinner at selected restaurant; Taormina has an active night life.
Day 2: Artists paint all day. Breakfast at hotel each day. 1 Lunch and 3 Dinners with wine at our selected restaurant included.
Day 3: Drawing exercises at the famed ruins of the Greek Theater, Taormina. Travel to Savoca to paint the old perfectly preserved hilltop village. Dinner at a special restaurant. We provide the transportation to this site.
Day 4: Travel Day - Paint where ever you like.
Day 5: Down to the Ionian Sea. Paint a well-loved landmark Isola Bella and Giardini Naxos. We provide transportation to this site.
Day 6: Painting location of your choice in Taormina or free time to shop or relax
Day 7: Paint Florence Trevelyan’s gardens in the Morning. Afternoon painting location of your choice in Taormina. 5 pm hotel terrace for Group Art Show of your works followed by a Gala Dinner.
Special for Non-painting guests - We'll arrange for Cooking Classes. Or, you can arrange for tours to other areas of Sicily through the hotel's concierge.
Day 8: Group Check-out. We will assist you in making reservations for transportation to the airport.
Faculty Information:
Sam D'Ambruoso of Middlebury, CT has been professionally painting landscapes and portraits since 1972. His artists' workshops in the United States and in Italy, begun in 1997, have been acclaimed by past participants many of whom return year after year.
Mary Ann D'Ambruoso is the Workshop Coordinator. Since 1997, Sam and Mary Ann have hosted International Art Workshops concentrating on Italy and New England. In 2006 a new program was added which presents travel opportunities focused on Italian Culture and Cuisine. She began her hospitality career in 1979 and took her culinary training in NY City at the Professional Culinary Arts Center, The New School for Social Research.

The workshop includes:
- 7 nights, 8 days at Villa Schuler in Taormina with private gardens and panoramic views. All rooms have private baths.
- Daily breakfast at the hotel. 1 lunch, 3 dinners provided in our selected restaurant.
- 6 1/2 days Plein air painting. Work in oil, watercolor or pastels. All Levels. This is a Non Instructed Paint-out
- Painting in Taormina, Giardini Naxos on the sea and other selected sites.
- Open day for your own pursuits.
- Transportation to/from Airport and Hotel may be arranged in advance at approximately 75 Euro each way.
Facility Information:
Ancient theaters, temples, mountains and sea, we are very pleased to be in Sicily for the 2nd year. We'll paint en plein air in lovely formal gardens and at the seashore, then sketch among the ruins of a Greco-Roman Theater - all providing wonderful opportunities to experience this intriguing Island.
You'll stay in splendid Taormina, a lovely jewel facing smoldering Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea of Homer and the Cyclops. Enjoy traditional Sicilian cuisine and wines.
