Join Dianne Bersea for an exploration of the spontaneous surprises of the study. We’ll visit nature’s complex visual environment to "see" and expand awareness of mood, color and compositional elements. Weather permitting we’ll create loose, simple on-site studies in pencil, watercolor crayon or watercolor paint as we learn quick, easy techniques to capture light, shadow, shape, line, tone and form. In the studio, we’ll evolve the study further or translate it into a finished art piece. In the process we'll discuss the natural evolution of a work. Some watercolor or drawing experience suggested.
Workshop schedule:
- Mornings we'll work "en plein air" with demonstrations and hands-on to:
* Enhance our seeing and awareness
* Simplify the complex visual environment
* Learn techniques to capture ideas and images on paper with a variety of water media
- Afternoons in the studio with demonstrations and hands-on to:
* Assess and evolve images for composition and impact
* Enlarge, manipulate and transfer images to another working surface
* Address large areas first with washes or flat areas of color
* Complete at least one piece from study to finished art
If weather is unfriendly we'll work inside from simple still life set-ups.
