One of the most exciting destinations in the world is Scotland, with its gorgeous coast, rugged hills, open sky, its history and culture--they're all the makings of legend. And what better way to experience this grand land than on The Royal Scotsman, a five-star luxury train? This Grand Classic Tour begins at Edinburgh's Waverley Station where you are welcomed aboard to the familiar tune of the bagpipe.

Travel across the magnificent Forth Railway Bridge, one of the first cantilever bridges in the world, visit Strathisla Distillery--home of Chivas Regal--and explore Ballindalloch, one of Scotland's most romantic castles. The sheer luxury of the train itself is overwhelming, with its spacious cabins and lovely dining rooms, open-air observation platform and impeccable staff. The food and wine are famous around the world for their tasty perfection. The train takes a maximum of 36 pampered passengers.

Sample Itinerary (5-Day Classic Tour):

Day 1: Edinburgh-Keith. The Royal Scotsman departs Edinburgh this afternoon, traveling north across magnificent Forth Railway Bridge—one of the first cantilever bridges, completed in 1890. Afternoon tea served as train continues to Keith. Disembark to view a ceilidh, traditional Scottish dance, and taste the scotch produced at Strathisla Distillery, home of Chivas Regal. Rejoin train for informal dinner.

Day 2: Keith-Kyle of Lochalsh. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as the train travels west. Visit Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, founded in 1843. Continue west from Inverness on to Kyle of Lochalsh, one of the most scenic lines in Britain. At Plockton, head out on a boat trip to view seals and admire Isle of Skye. Return to Plockton Hotel for a dram or two before rejoining train in Kyle of Lochalsh. A formal dinner is followed by entertainment in observation car.

Day 3: Kyle of Lochalsh-Boat of Garten. Depart Kyle and retrace yesterday’s route to Inverness. Head south to Carrbridge for a visit to Ballindalloch, one of Scotland’s most romantic castles. Tour the 16th-centry home and gardens of the Macpherson-Grant family. Return to train at Boat of Garten on private tracks of Strathspey Railway for overnight stabling. After formal dinner, Highland storyteller Ray Owens brings Scottish heroes to life.

Day 4: Boat of Garten-Stirling. Choose from several options today, which may include fishing, clay pigeon shooting, a guided walk or relaxing by the fire at Drumintoul Lodge. Rejoin the train at Aviemore and lunch while traveling south to Dunkeld. Disembark and visit Glamis Castle, Seat of the Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and childhood home of the late H.M. Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. Save time in your tour to visit the gorgeous gardens. Rejoin the train in Perth for dinner on board.

Day 5: Stirling-Edinburgh. After breakfast depart for Edinburgh, arriving mid-morning.
