Starting in Kunming and reaching the Tibetan village of Yubeng in the northernmost reaches of Yunnan Province, we pass through Naxi, Lisu, and Tibetan cultural areas, cover altitudes from 1,800 meters to 4,500 meters, see two UNESCO World Heritage Sites - one cultural and one natural, admire rare plants and birds, visit monasteries important to Tibetan Buddhism, and drive through the dramatic landscape of the Great Rivers Region.
On our way, we have the chance to witness the sustainable development work of three conservation organizations: The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, and RARE. The trip climaxes when we hike to the isolated Tibetan village of Yubeng, visit places sacred to Buddhist pilgrims, and interact with local villagers. A feast for the physical senses as well as the soul, our journey gives us a deep sense of Tibetan culture and its spiritual overtones, a glimpse of traditional Chinese life, and lots of breathtaking scenery.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Kunming, stroll along Green Lake Park, a charming area of teahouses and small boutiques selling handicrafts and beautiful local paintings, followed by an evening welcome briefing.
Day 2: Fly to Lijiang. Lijiang Old Town.
Day 3: Lijiang to Liming Nature Reserve.
Day 4: Liming Nature Reserve to Zhongdian (Gyalthang).
Day 5: Zhongdian.
Day 6: Zhongdian to Deqin (Dechen).
Day 7: Deqin (Dechen) to Yubeng Village.
Day 8: Day excursion to Sared Water Fall.
Day 9: Day excursion to Alpine Lake.
Day 10: Yubeng village to Deqin (Dechen).
Day 11: Deqin (Dechen) to Zhongdian (Gyalthang).
Day 12: Fly back to Kunming and transfer to our onward flight.
