Sweden Journal

An American in search for his Swedish roots arrives in Stockholm, a very interesting and well build city one of the most beautiful national capitals in the world. He takes time to look into the attractions, life and culture of Sweden meanwhile finding his origins, not bad at all...combining pleasant with useful...everything turned out well.

Wow I am totally impressed by your web site, and your travels!!!
I love to travel myself, and have traveled around for a while but didn't meet many people especially in USA willing to explore the world so widely. This is truly amazing!!!
How have you been meeting people and managing your finances? Limited resources, but eager to know everything... just kidding.
What is the story behind all this?

The trip cost something close to $20k USD. Backpacking and staying in hostels, helped stretch my budget out further--it also made it easy to meet people, mostly travelers though, because they were doing the same thing.

hello, I live in Sweden, but not in Stockholm. Sweden is a very beutiful country with many diffrent sites. I can promise all body that this in nothing you wanna miss. A minus with Sweden it´s that it´s cold and rainy. But some don´t take that like a minus.
So if you wanna go to sweden can i recommend to go to Stockholm but also a another place , like the north of Sweden because there is it very beutiful. If you don+t like that can I recommend the iland Gotland or the west coust. cheers

While I find it hard to believe you would be able to bribe anyone in Sweden, specially a bouncer, with 50 crowns (that money won't even buy you a beer at the bar) the overall picture is quite swedish. Particularly the rain part. If you want Sweden sans rain you'd have to come here mid July to August, or maybe January. Though then it'd of course be snow instead, snow dark and ice cold...
The more I think about it, the more I suggest you go somewhere else instead. Spain for example, or Italy ;)

Sweden is lovely in the summer, but terrible in winter. Yesterday I went to Stockholm and it was SO cold, so I would recommend summer if you want to come to my native country. It is very beautiful around here.

I especially like the gamla stan (old Town). Gamla stan have a lot of history and the surroundings are quit old with cosy coffeshops and restaurants.

Sweden is a lovely country! I recommend a trip around Sweden and see all of it. Not just Stockholm, which by the way IS a beautiful city, but to fully see the Swedish culture there is so much more to see than just Stockholm!... Cities I recommend you visit is Visby on Gotland and Söderköping in Östergötland and Gamla stan in Linköping!

Hi! I live and come from Sweden and infact I lived one whole year in Stockholm in a suburb. The description that you have made of Stockholm is correct. It was quite interesting to read your journal. I think the best with Sweden is the nature and that it is so clean here. I recommend to walk around in one of the nature reserves especially in the northern part of Sweden.
