And don't worry to much about not being enthralled completely by Angkor Wat. I've had similar experiences with other great monuments. It's probably because we can get easily impressed by sights when we see them on pictures, but on the spot it is the nature, the animals, the locals, dynamic things which succeed in catching our attention. Besides, traveling is not only about lifeless attractions :) |

There are many other places u can visit in Siem Reap. A few years ago, i went to Koh Kae Temple which took a few hour drive. The temple looks like pyramid shape but kinda ruined now. The road condition to there should be fine now I think. Bak Kheang is really a great place for sun set. U can see Angkor Wat from there and it is spectacular. U can get to the top by foot or u can take an elephant ride..If u can get up there early, u can get a great spot for sunset. It is the show that is priceless. But u can visit Ta Phrom and the elephant terrace before that coz it's just close by. At night, there are bar in the middle of the city..Great cocktails there. Night market is also good but if u can bargain, that will help u save a bit of money. U know, they tend to over charge tourists. If u can get up early, maybe around 4.30 am, u can head to Angkor wat for sunrise, u'll be surprised to see so many people there. FOr me it wasn't just a sunrise, it was a sunrise at Angkor. The best way to get around to places is to hire a motor taxi (the one they have the carrier at the back), u can make a deal with them for daily charge. SOrry I am not sure how much that will cost per day coz i got someone to drive me...But I guess around 15 or 20 aday..If the driver is nice, u can pay extra tip if u want. Thats up to u. I hope this will help any of u who wish to visit there. U'll love the place. Have respect for the place and dont do anything crazy. I am sure it will be the trip of a life time. Cheers. |
