| Journey to Taiwan, May 2002 |
| Submitted by roxy on 2007-02-09 06:04:01 (via stason.org) |
| If you go to Taiwan, don’t miss a traditional Chinese massage. Here it's the man that do the massage and most of them are professional masseurs, compared to most amateur masseuses in Thailand which work in tourist places. Then, in the Wulai village you may see butterflies everywhere, like in the butterfly garden. Almost Paradise on the Earth!

I agree that the pricing in Taiwan is almost the same as in Singapore and it's definetely more expensice than Thailand. Buses in Taipei is quite efficent but rather you need to wait quite a long time to get one. The frequency there is worst than Singapore and sometime Bangkok, as I have taken both. Most of the people in Taiwan do not know how to speak english but this has improve a bit already for the past few years. |

Actually, there are also many beautiful places that many foreigners visit there, like Ping-tung, Hua-ling, Tai-tung. Not like other big cities, these places are famous for their naturally beauties. In my suggestion, if you have a chance to visit Taiwan, you shouldn't miss these places. As what I said earlier, there are also some big cities in Taiwan. The big cities always have the problems of traffic, like other cities in the world. But, it's okay for living here or visiting here because you can experience the difference between Taiwan and other places totally. |

basically I agree with almost everything that is said here in this article. Though I have to say sth about the hotels in Taipei. Compared to HK, you can definitely find some nice and cheap hotels with good quality, and locate in city centre.
As to the problam that ppl dont speak English, I admit that compare with Singapore or HK, ppl here in Taiwan cannot speak English as well and often are afraid to use their poor English. But Taiwanese are warm and whole-hearted. They will be happy to help you anyway. And you will find that Taiwanese are especially kind to foreigners. ;)
Since that travelogue is writen in 2002, things have changed a bit now. The transportation is even more convenient in Taipai city. You can easilly gain access to all the main attractions by MRT. And with the Taiwan High Speed Rail Train is now in operation, you can visit southern Taiwan within an hour. (though the ticket is not cheap, around NTD 2,440 from Taipei-Kaohsiung)
In short, I sincerely invite everyone to visit Taiwan. You can spend 3 days in Taipei then go travel around Hualian, Yilan, Taroko Gorge, or to the southest part, Kenting. There are all kinds of activities that can acoomodate every need. ;) |

I am a Taiwanese and live in Taipei. I have been to many places in Taiwan, the north part to the south part. Someone gave the web site to me and hope I could add some comments here. I'm glad to do so. But my English is good, and your experience is so big. I just can read it slowly and add some comments today. I will adds all when I finish reading it.
FIRST, I'm very sorry about your feet! It's shame on us people. I apologize to you about this. >,<
And I thought you are very great people to travel our country. The English is not popular here for foreigner to travel. But I do know there is a beautiful place to see. We all people here think Hualien is the most great and beautiful one. River, sea, and the mountains are wonderful. You’ve been there, congratulations. But I’m not sure you enter the exactly I thought the most beautiful park with the wonderful river. I’ll check the Chinese-English map to find it out. Because some of your words about Taiwan I can’t recognize, sorry. Other comments I will add other days. Thank you for been in Taiwan. ^^ |
