Not too bad actually. I live about 90 km south of Prague and the roads are not bad at all. They are renewing a lot of little roads and have been building express ways to Austria etc (but that is a 50 year project...)Infrastructure investment and quality is surprisingly ok as far as roads go. |

Well, "Europe" is a large area for such a sweeping statement. In general, roads in Western Europe are excellent (sometimes better than in the US); in Central and Eastern Europe it varies. In the Czech Republic roads are okay, both for driving and for bicycling. It depends on what you expect. |

Right and right: Plzen is the city after which "pilsener" beer was named. Their light (blond) beers are terrific and yes, it's also still cheaper than western Europe (except maybe in Prague) |

I would say: go anytime between mid-May and late June. The weather will be wonderful, but there won't be that many tourists. With the obvious exception of Prague, where it is always crowded with tourists. |

Dear All,
I can only say what has been written here is more-less true. Quiet, peaceful, and friendly country for both car- tourists as well as for bicycling.
Absolutely true is what has been mentioned here concerning the bier. No doubt, best in the world, and I keep saying, those who haven't tasted the REAL Czech bier (draught bier), do not know what rear bier is. Pretty far from the A-B Budweiser, be sure! And, as said, we have hundreds makes of bier, just come and taste, sometimes even pint for less than a dollar, and the best quality guaranteed!
However, I am not very happy for the pics placed here. Most of them are pretty old! Roads here are much better these days, also, many miles of cycling paths have been constructed. Just put your helmet on and kick the pedals:-) I personally love cycling so I know what I am talking about.
To conclude: come and see, certainly welcome!
Or contact me for more info's at: mkrcmar383@yahoo.co.uk
Looking forward 2 C U here,
Mirek |

In the Czech Republic: are the Normal roads still not in good condition ( busy B roads Brno - Svitavy - Hradec Kralove) .
other roads are already better for the last 5 years , but depend to witch part from Czech Republic you go .,,small country roads are really good for bickers .also true the forest is super .
even for gastronomic people the Czech Republic is super ,,many local beers and foods ,,the prize depends where you go ,in Prague you will feel at home $$ , but in the country you still find great places where a beer cost 19 Kc=70 euro cent .
but in general its a very good destination for a good vacation |

Next very good thing is that you can built your tent almost wherever you want and also open the small fire limited by stones(must be) and next day just destroy fire place and leave there nice after you and no mess.People are there usually very good and nice of course if you will be nice to them . I now live in Ireland republic and i can say that the thing that you can built a tent wherever you want or open the fire place for make a food is here Fantas Magoria(means- no way ). |

come on, people, the turism in check republic is almost for the women! famous to be easy and nice, also if it`s not all of them like this.
About nature, have u notice that 2 articles speaks about Bohemia? it`s like to speak about Sicily in Italy, so don`t confuse all check republic with Bohemia.
The nature in some parts is really nice, and so quiet that if someone will kill you there, nobody will never notice!
Also the sun is few months a year, last may was snowing for 1 day, and the summer there is rain.
CZ is famous for beer, girls and if u live there u will see that Busses and trams are really good, working 24 hours a day. this country is famous cause if u want to have fun, here is possible all day long, just u need people that knows where to go.
For bicycling, honestly do it in your own country or town |

I have read the article about a trip to Bohemia and I must admit it is quite accurate. Well, hunting for bears is a bit of exaggeration though, but the rest gives accurate impression one can get when cycling and touring there. The villages seem to have got lost in time and some of the villagers too. As there are no streets in villages, the houses are numbered not randomly as it may seem, but there is logic to it. They get numbers in order they were built, so your neighbors might have a completely different number. No good looking for no. 39 next to no. 40.
As for people, they are friendly, though they may seem to be a bit melancholic, as the might have lost all the joy somewhere on the way to democracy. (Well the present government don´t make us any happier, they are a bad joke at the moment.) Otherwise Czech people have an open hand and a quite specific sense of humor.
And the castles and nature are really spectacular |

yes I can agree with the article.. Actually I am from Slovakia but now I live and work in Prague..It is very beautiful city with big historical background. U can see it on every corner or building..There are a lot of places u should see. I like it very much and that is one of the reasons why I came here.. as u know it used to be one country called czechoslovakia but we split in 1993..
if u want to make a vacation, Prague is very good place to stay.. I can recommend it to u. Czech cuisine, beers and wines are very good..u should really enjoy it.:)
about the prices:center is very expensive because Prague and Czech republic as well is living from tourism..but here are bars and restaurants where food and drinks are for acceptable prices too..for example daily menu from 80 czk(soup, main course and drink included)and it is really big portion:)))
people in Czech Republic are kind and very helpful..don't worry..:) |
