| One Hundred and Fifty Quetzels |
| Submitted by Adele on 2007-04-04 09:04:46 (via www.vwvagabonds.com) |
| Here is a unique style of crossing Guatemalan borders free of charge. And this done facing a soldier with a machine gun, and entering a country in civil war. Sometimes and even often women can work up miracles in an amazing way. Then, you don’t recognize the woman next to you anymore.

I have been an ex pat resident of Guatemala and El Salvador since 1986, your article 'One Hundred Fifty Quetzales' is interesting, however in what year was the article written? The Peace Treaty between the Govt. Forces and the Insurgents was signed in 1996 and as well, for many years Belize and Guatemala have had full diplomatic relations, the border crossing at Melchor de Menos from Belize into Guatemala is quite busy, including many travelers enroute to Tikal Ruins via the town of Flores Peten. Exactly what year did you make this border crossing? Reminds me one I made there in the early 1970s..Is your book updated or full of old 'mythology and fantasy' about Guatemala that will really scare some naive first time travelers away....D.
