Shooting the rapids in Pagsanjan
Submitted by ivanhenares on 2007-06-27 08:36:32 (via www.ivanhenares.com)
The boat trip to Pagsanjan Falls is a thrill ride one should not miss when in the Philippines. Watching the boatmen jump out of the boat when the rapids come up and hop from rock to rock pulling the small wooden boat upstream against the strong current, is indeed amazing. And the scenery and nature around is simply refreshing.

hey ivan.. welcome here.. I guess any tourism aficionado knows who you are or it may have happened to him to read one of your articles.
your commitment to exploring and showing the Philippines to the world is absolutely admirable. nice job, man
now.. I'd have a question to ask you, if you don't mind
what about safety during these trips? is the boatman responsible for you getting safe back or is ti just a risk everybody takes just to see this marvelous waterfall?

You have to sign a waiver with the municipal government. So you shoot the rapids at your own risk.

P.S. Adventure always has its risks. Go white water rafting, they let you sign a waiver. Climb Mt. Everest, they let you sign a waiver that if you die up the mountain, the group will leave your body there.

oh,yes.. that's the charm of adventures
I knew about that.. however I didn't think it happened so in all the situations...
Have you ever climbed Mount Everest? :)
it is on my must-do lits. but I can't seem to find enough time to organize it... and the idea of having my body left at high altitude isn't very pleasant...
now, why do they call that cave behind the falls the Devil's Cave? this can threaten tourists to death

Any cave can threaten tourists to death. But as for Devil's Cave, it's simply a hollow space behind the falls. So what's the fuss?

well.. that's also true. but you have to agree that a cave having this name that is situated behind the falls added to the experience of the ride itself, may not sound very appealing for the heart-fainted.

Adventure is not for the faint-hearted. Why the fuss on the cave?

I've just read the article which is very inspiring indeed
You mentioned that one should be licensed to be a boatman and that they even have six-month trainings. Is this their permanent job or is it just for the tourism season?

It's for as long as there are clients. But it's their main source of livelihood.

there's no fuss, I was just wandering... maybe there are some sort of lugubrious legends related to its name. never mind
But do the authorities try to promote and preserve these touristic objectives?
