| Evening light was beginning to settle on the Nyaruboro Hills. As with many special places in the world travelers with cocktails in hand ventured out to witness the sunset. It was no different here at the Sopa Lodge deep in the Serengeti.

| My guide has retired to his tent for the night, exhausted from driving 8 hours over bone-jarring, roughly graded roads. I look up from my camp table and realize that I can only see what is illuminated by the kerosene lantern - a circle of light about three feet in diameter. Beyond that is complete and utter blackness.

| “After sunset, the camp erupted with a plethora of animal sounds. The forest adjacent to the river had come alive. We listened intently as each roar came closer to us. Under other circumstances, I would have been happy that my tent, at the end of the row, was the one farthest from the main camping area”. Safari…deadly scaring…, but worth it!
