Egypt is, or should be, on every keen travellers’ “must see” list. Of course you will visit Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, but Egypt has much more to offer than pyramids and ancient temples. Why not take a trip up the Nile, or ride a camel in the desert and do some rock climbing at St Catherine in Mount Sinai. Several coastal towns have splendid water sport activities, including wind/kite surfing and scuba diving, or you can just lie on one of the many beaches and soak up the sun. Don’t miss the Khan el-Khalili souk in Cairo, which sells hand-crafted souvenirs and has several coffee houses where you can sample some very strong Arabic coffee or traditional mint tea. Cairo also has excellent restaurants, bars, pubs and nightclubs.
