For hikers there is perhaps no better place to visit than the Faroe Islands. The Capital, Torshavn is a lovely city with beautiful, traditional architecture and narrow streets. The best way to see it is by bus – which are free so you can hop on and off whenever you please. Don’t miss admiring the famous 15th century pew-ends from St Olav Church in the National Museum. Visit the busy port in Klaksvik for magnificent views of the pyramid mountain on Kunoy Island. Climb Slaettratindur Mountain and walk to the edge of Beinisvord sea cliff for more stupendous views. Go hiking round Toftavatn Lake and take a boat tour to Koltur Island which has excellent hiking trails and lots of puffins. See the natural wonders of Rinkusteinar, which are strange rocking stones, and the Risin og Kellingin basalt sea stacks.
