Kyrgyzstan is a “new country” and a largely unexplored one by tourists, so put it at the top of your “must visit” list! It offers the most beautiful mountain panoramas with snow-capped summits and mountain lakes such as Lake Issyc Kul, the second largest saline lake in the world. Visit the Ala Archa National Park which has over 20 glaciers and a beautiful canyon to explore. Trekking is a popular pastime and there are some spectacular trails to follow on either day-long hikes or three-day treks in the Altyn Arashan Valley. Don’t miss a trip to the Saimaluu Tash Petroglyph Site which has the world’s largest concentration of carved pictures with over 10,000 examples. The Capital, Bishlek has several good museums and art galleries, but for souvenirs head for the huge, busy market in Osh.
