Over 90% of the State of Maine is covered in forests and lakes, which makes for great hunting and fishing, and Maine also boasts of the highest number of islands off its coast. Go on the Maine Island Trail which will take you along a superb 375-mile recreational waterway spanning the Maine coast. There are interesting places to visit along the way and you can do the Trail over a period of several days in your own boat or a hired one. Go hunting in the North Woods and hiking along the Gulf Hagas Rim Trail and in Baxter State Park where you can climb Mount Katahdin, the State’s tallest mountain. Camden, Kennebunk, Rockland and Portland have superb antique stores, art galleries, book stores and museums to explore and don’t leave the State before sampling freshly caught lobster.
