Mongolia Vacations

Mongolia has long evoked vast, icy, empty plains and fearsome warlords such as Genghis Khan, but this stunning country has beautiful parks, monasteries and plenty of outdoor activities that would be a pity to miss. The monasteries that were destroyed during Stalin’s reign have mostly been restored and are worth a visit, but the 18th century Amarbayasgalant Monastery survived the purge and shouldn’t be missed. Horse riding is popular and you can go on day rides or a week-long camping trek that will take you deep into the steppes where you can pitch your tent in one of the National Parks or share a nomad family’s yurt. Go bird watching, fishing and take a trip into the Gobi Desert where you can hunt for dinosaur fossils and ride a camel alongside the glacier in Yolyn Am Gorge.
