In 1907, Winston Churchill called Uganda “the Pearl of Africa” and if he could visit the country today, nothing would cause him to change his mind. The country is, quite simply, stunning with its many game reserves and National Parks, lush forests in the mountains to the east, the crater-lakes region and the headwaters of the Nile. There are plenty of things to do, such as rafting, hiking and following the Nile on a quad or on horse-back. You can go paragliding off Mount Elgon or bungee jumping near Jinga. Kampala, the Capital, has several fine museums and art galleries, cathedrals, a temple, a mosque and the Buganda Kings’ Tombs in Kasubi – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are street markets in all the towns across the country and nightclubs in Kampala, Entebbe and Jinga.
